Shaped By Family & Friends
Hello! I’m Kathryn, and I’m a business owner, animator, gamer, speaker, and more.
My animation journey began when I got to play on the SEGA Genesis, and I haven’t stopped playing since. In middle school, for career day, I made a three-poster collage of Nintendo Power Magazine cut-outs and stated, “I’m going to be a video game designer!”
Well, wouldn’t you know it? I’m not that! 😆
Instead I became an animator, and for over a decade, I was able to work and help support game designers on all sorts of projects, from AAA titles to children’s boating games.
Now, I co-run Open Pixel Studios. I believe that I have a responsibility to help women who are newly stepping into this industry, no matter when they join. Through mentorship and speaking engagements, I share my experiences and pass on what I’ve learned over the years. I also actively contribute to my communities by speaking at schools about breaking into the animation industry.
Most importantly, though: I am not perfect. I make mistakes, and sometimes I’m too hard on myself about them. My anxiety can get so extreme that I literally throw up on the spot (gross!). I can’t hide a part of who I am, but I can try to improve and work through my challenges. I will always advocate for therapy and finding ways to support your mental health.
